FATBANG is supplied in two grades. Both are 1-part FATBANG: 2-part water spray mixes.
For RESIDENTIAL users FATBANG comes as a 4L concentrate that makes up 12L+ final spray.
For FORESTRY users FATBANG is supplied as a 20L concentrate that makes up 60L final spray.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
-
FATBANG is mostly rain-fast when it dries, but if rain is due the same day, then hold off as it needs a reasonable dry-off period to set the fat coating. Temperature, humidity and wind all affect the drying time.
-
FATBANG is now a concentrate, so it has a thicker viscosity than the final mix. Shake the container to mix the contents, then add to water. Ideally use a high-speed drill for 1 minute in a bucket. Or just add into the backpack with the water and shake it up to a nice smooth consistency.
- For RESIDENTIAL version add between 8-11L of water to the 4L concentrate. That makes 12-15L of final mix and delivers around a 3% +/- tallow strength.
- For FORESTRY commercial users the only difference is in the strength of the concentrate and final spray mix. A 20L pack will mix to 60L once it is added to 40L of water and provides a 7% tallow strength. It is not recommended to dilute the mix further!
-
Due to its viscosity the FATBANG spray should be ideally applied via a BACKPACK-KNAPSACK sprayer. A hand-held sprayer may not have the power to propel the fluid. It should have a nice light creamy consistency using a flat-fan nozzle.
-
SPRAY A LIGHT COAT ONLY onto the plant at high pressure BEFORE the point of run-off. There is no need to cover the entire plant or to drown it - just the area at most risk of attack. LESS IS MORE! Just a quick blip on the sprayer gun will do it. No worries if it drips onto the ground. In fact, a ground spray will enhance protection.
-
Do not spray onto edible crops or plants as the taste will be unpalatable.
-
Best practice is to NOT spray when plants-trees are stressed – and that goes for the application of any spray - so AVOID direct sunlight in hot weather, strong winds, drought and also when the plant has already been sprayed in the last 10 days with any other chemical. The target seedling should be in good shape, hydrated and stress-free when FATBANG is applied!
-
FATBANG can be applied when the seedlings are in a bulk pack, and the fluid will go a lot further. Just spray the tops but let it dry before planting otherwise they will be a bit greasy when handling.
-
FATBANG will NOT harm or burn most plants. We have tested on numerous common shelter-belt tree seeding varieties - broad-leaf's, conifers, eucalypts, natives, deciduous trees, grasses, etc - with few issues. However, because there are thousands of plants-trees-shrubs-grasses-ornamentals out there we cannot test them all, so if in doubt TRIAL SPRAY A FEW PLANTS and wait a week to see if any problems arise.
-
Always avoid flowers, delicate or thin-walled plants, or bipinnate foliage like ferns. Puka's may be a bit sensitive due to the very large leaf size but that depends on its aspect, exposure to sun and winds, etc. TRIAL SPRAY FIRST FOR THESE PLANTS!
-
LEAVE FOR AT LEAST 3 MONTHS BEFORE THE NEXT SPRAY! The fat residue can last for up to 6 months in some sites.
-
For shiny waxy leaves it can be difficult to achieve a smooth uniform coat as the fluid will tend to slide off to the leaf margins. This is perfectly ok as the smell and texture of the fat will still deter the pest.
-
Coverage estimates are based on 20ml per 400-500mm stand-alone planted tree seedling, so a 10L container of final spray mix will cover around 500 planted seedlings. Just a VERY LIGHT COAT is needed at the growth points and ends of branches. This is where deer usually target, not the whole tree!
-
For seedlings that have not yet been planted (ie: still in the nursery or in bulk sacks or boxes) then coverage is more efficient. Expect 10-20 times coverage rates - ie: 10L spray will cover 5000-10000 seedlings or more.
STORAGE AND CARE
-
Keep stored in a cool place out of sunlight.
- Do not ingest the fluid. Do not store where children may reach. Protect your eyes from the spray, wash hands after use.
-
Do not mix with any other liquid, except water. Dilute with more water if it's a bit too thick for your sprayer.
- It's ok to add some marker dye to the mix.
-
Use the concentrate within 6 months and use the mixed spray within 2-3 days. However, if storing for longer periods then give it a decent shake-up every month or so to keep it emulsified and ready for use. If it looks too thick just add some water and shake it to a nice light creamy consistency. Better still, remix with a drill attachment before using. Viscosity will vary depending on how well it has been stored, if air has leaked in, or if stored in sunlight, age, etc.
